Red Jack has worked his way inland and intends to ambush the train on its run into Portobello, before it gets to the way-station of San Miguel.
---oXo---
The silver train halts for a rest, the offficers confer. They are usually met here by a patrol of dragoons from the way-station of San Miguel.
At the way-station of San Miguel the patrol is being assembled, the new officer in charge is taking his time ...The commander of the silver train decides to press on as fast as possible ...with his scouts out in front ..
As they progress, the scouts notice some movement in the jungle, but are not sure what ..
The scouts come under fire from pirates in the rocks to their front and side....
The scouts push on as some of the regulars escorting the silver train move up at the double ...
The regulars form up and start exchanging fire with the pirates ....
The patrol has finally left the way-station, after hearing the distant sound of gun fire ....
More pirates appear at the rear of the silver train, they rush out of the jungle firing their pistols ...
The exchange of fire goes on between the regulars and the pirates in the rocks ...
The pirates have charged into the rear and flank of the the silver train, while pirates from the rocks have charged down hill pushing back the regulars. The rest of the regulars regroup ....
The pirates have success at the rear of the train and push back the regulars, and start to lead some of the mules towards the jungle ....
As the pirates lead more of the mules into the jungle, they hold off the regulars, meanwhile at the front of the train the regrouped reulars exchange fire with the pirates - the way-sation patrol has just arrived to join the fight ...
The pirates disappear into the jungle leading the mules away - they have taken over half the silver train ..
The withering fire from the regulars and the presence of the dragoons from the way-station, forces the rest of the pirates to retreat into the jungle - some of the silver train has been saved from the clutches of the pirates.
